Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Unit

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complex and debilitating disorder characterised by intense fatigue that is not relieved by rest and which is made worse by physical or mental activity.

There are illnesses that have similar symptoms to CFS, including fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalitis, neurasthenia, and others, as well as many illnesses that can cause fatigue.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic rheumatic disease characterised by generalised musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. The word fibromyalgia (FM) means "pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons" (the fibrous parts of the body).

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a central nervous system disorder of unknown cause and for which there is currently no cure. There are, however, palliative treatments for the pain and numerous other symptoms that accompany the illness.

The CIMA Rheumatology Service is accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute for the treatment of this type of condition.
